Siki Im

Siki Im's AW 2011 collection, Silent Thunderbird Prayer, is based in the Native American ethos of balancing mind, body and spirit.  Loved the hats and hair!

I have included a few pictures my partner Duck and I shot at NY fashion week this season.  If you would like to see a more comprehensive blog post about this please check out the Kat+Duck blog for the full report.

PARKCHOONMOO with Bevel NYC

Playing catch up on NYFW.  I finally got to check out the work of PARKCHONMOO which was avant garde and absolutely stunning.  She teamed up with Jonathan Goldstein of Bevel to complete her show.  Really enjoyed this!

Imitation

Gorgeous Helmut Newton type girls in 1940's Hollywood glam.  I loved the Imitation presentation we saw at Milk this season.

The emergence of Zombie Boy

Of course Thierry Mugler is known for the weird and wonderful, but combining the visual onslaught of Lady Gaga and Zombie Boy definitely brought it somewhere unexpected. My favorite is the pulling off of black latex to reveal Zombie Boy's tattoos. Duck and I had an argument if they were real or just makeup - I won :)

Couture Catch up

I have been catching up on my Couture Week shows this weekend. Since I am knee deep in a serious retouching editorial right now, I need a little something to distract me at times. There were a couple shows that stood out.

Of course Jean-Paul Gaultier was amazing. This show stopping can can skirt, complete with full line up of can can dancer legs was a perfect finale to this season's show. I also loved the hair from this show. I am always down for bringing back Mohawks (mind you I don't think I will ever charge mine up). Lastly, I thought to very challenging to have a model smoking her way down the catwalk for the whole show, especially since there is a serious push to ban it everywhere public.

Next, was Dior. I was so tickled way back when Galliano decided to head up this Couture house. I am a huge fan for his work. It is always luxurious, expertly tailored and highly conceptual. With Dior his aesthetic is still there but with a more upscale air. After this show I really would like to rock the red eyebrows and cat mask!

The final surprise for me came from Armani Prive. I am not normally the biggest fan. Armani does beautiful tailoring but it is usually too classic to really stand out, but this time I saw a Blade Runner-esque look walk down the catwalk and I was blown away!

Time to get back to retouching and getting ready for New York Fashion Week!

You'll never have to pack a lunch again...

I came across the amazing work of Emily Crane today. She creates diaphanous fashion out of edible components like gelatin. The result is elegant, sculptural and airy, though I wonder how long they last on the body and do they melt at some point. Definitely makes a wonderful statement. Check out her website for more details about how these pieces are made.

Pretty in Punk: a studded affair

I am delighted that today Studs, a fashion editorial I shot as my collaborative project Kat+Duck, is published by Impostor Magazine. Currently the issue is only online but will soon go to print.

The downside to shooting fall winter fashion in spring summer is that you have to wait half the year to release the images and finally see them printed. As a result I have been anxiously sitting on these images we shot last September/October. It is also our first foray into graphic design and layout.

I am feeling rather inspired to start a magazine now, since Duck and I both have a background in publishing (among other things)...

Aurel Fixations

I have always been a fan of Kraftwork but have not been listening to them for a while. I saw this video again and I forgot how great it is so I thought I would share this visual delight today.

Find of the day

I am not a purse sort of person especially if I cannot sling it over my shoulder to get it out of my way, but I can across these purses by Rich in Craft today and I am totally in love! The combination of alabaster antler paired with an elegantly designed and stitched fabric purse is the real deal maker.

Maybe I will have to get myself an early birthday gift this year....
